WHAT IS AUTISTIC LINCS?

Autistic Lincs was a column I ,Callum Brazzo, wrote for the Lincolnshire Free Press paper and has now become a Facebook Page but I wanted to have this online space to share the columns of the past and the future (check out the Guest Columns so far and The Spergy Podcast

I want this to evolve according to the contributors so don't be afraid of connecting via the Contact Page or the Facebook Page!

With all of that, let me tell you a little bit about how Autistic Lincs started...

SO, Autistic Lincs was started completely on a whim.

I was merely filling a gap in representation for as long as I could.
(A little coverage of the origins here: Lincolnshire Free Press appoints 'insightful' autistic columnist - Journalism News from HoldtheFrontPage

Making contact with a former Editor of Lincolnshire Free Press through an acquaintance arguably more familiar with my community work as a poet, Autistic Lincs was a journey I never expected but felt socially responsible to continue.
Putting many of the columns (some were omitted due to outdated information around events, locations etc), into the site was a deeply reflective process and I am proud of the moments I captured in time whether it was something within the wider autistic community or my personal life.

It's impossible to separate them entirely.

I am autistic. This autistic existence isn't always easy.
The world is oppressive. But also...
Communication, friendships, relationships, it all looks different.
Not every autistic person will get on though the expectation may be that we will.

Humans vary. Journeys vary but all we can do is start it.

Find your outlet. Your people. Your safe spaces.

I hope this writing journey, as a reader, has been meaningful for you and this really isn't the end, it's just a new beginning.

This website and all it encompasses exists here but hopefully this evolves too with new collaborators, guest columnists, maybe an Autistic Lincs team of our own?

Thank you to everyone at Lincolnshire Free Press, The Spalding and South Holland Voice and everyone that's ever empowered this journey. Onto the next one!

Love and solidarity,

Callum from Autistic Lincs.

PS the potatoes and soil is because Lincolnshire is known for them so if you were wondering....now you know!
